Today is a sad day for any Star Trek fan as Leonard Nimoy has passed away at the age of 83. Leonard was to many the heart of the show as he was one of the only original actors to be both in the original pilot for Star Trek and the series. We aren't going get too sappy with this news, but I just wanted to express what Star Trek has meant to me.
It gave me the chance to see a future that shows a united humanity, where science, intelligence and a thirst for knowledge are not only encouraged but is an integral part of human life. This view of humanity made my daily life as a nerd outsider just a little easier. And it also gave me a chance to see space babes in bikinis.
Thanks Leonard. Thanks, Spock. And thank goodness for Star Trek.
May you rest long and prosper, Mr Spock.
